Dear Friends,
It has been a long day at UNC hospital but everything went very smoothly. I spoke to Brenda's surgeon after the operation and she said everything went really well and they were able to get clear margins around the incisions, which is what everyone was hoping for. Brenda got through the surgery without an anesthetic. She had a nerve block and some pain meds. When they brought her to recovery she was very sleepy.
At 4pm she was moved to a small room where they are closely monitored through the night. She ate a hearty meal of chicken and rice and green beans plus a pint of her favorite Hagen Das Ice cream.
Before I left her this evening she was able to get up and walk down the hall with me. She said her arm hurt a lot, but she seemed to be in pretty good spirits. Todd and Graham were at the hospital all afternoon and Michele, Todd's wife came to relieve me tonight. She will sleep over and then Graham is coming to take Brenda home tomorrow. I imagine she will be home by early afternoon.
Thanks so much for all your prayers and good wishes to support us throughout the day. Brenda is supposed to rest and do very little for the next three weeks so all your support will be greatly appreciated. Good Night! Judith
